Officials announced another lead in the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 on Wednesday.

Satellite images of what appears to be a debris field in the southern Indian Ocean, using images prepared by a division of Airbus and taken on Sunday, could be “the most credible lead that we have.”

“It must be emphasized that we cannot tell whether the potential objects are from MH370,” said Hishammuddin Hussein, the country’s defense minister and acting transport minister. “Nevertheless, this is another new lead that will help direct the search operation.”

The images show over 10 objects in a 160-square-mile (460-square-kilometer) area.

As the search drew to a close on Wednesday, spotters were unable to locate the objects.  Given the severe weather in the region, the objects could have drifted far from their original position, Malaysian authorities emphasized.
